Cook Islands Foreign Minister to attend the 3rd China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers Meeting

Rarotonga, 27 May 2025 - The Honourable Tingika Elikana, Cook Islands Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, will be traveling to Xiamen City, China, to attend the 3rd China-Pacific Foreign Ministers Meeting. The meeting is scheduled to take place on the 28 and 29 of May 2025. Minister Elikana will be supported by Senior Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration (MFAI) and the Cook Islands Deputy High Commission to New Zealand. 

This gathering will bring together foreign ministers from Pacific Island countries, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and high-level representatives from the People's Republic of China to discuss a range of issues of mutual interest and importance. The agenda will cover topics such as economic cooperation, climate action, and sustainable development.

Minister Elikana will represent the Cook Islands and will engage in discussions with his counterparts to deepen understandings, strengthen relations, and explore opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. The Cook Islands is committed to fostering strong and productive partnerships within the Pacific and beyond the Pacific, including with China, and this meeting is an important platform to achieve that goal.

MFAI will provide an update on the outcomes from the meeting and any initiatives that may arise out of those discussions in due course.
