Honiara, Solomon Islands — 07 November 2025 – The Cook Islands participated in the 2025 Pacific Labour Mobility Annual Meeting (PLMAM), held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, from 3-6 November 2025. This year’s PLMAM was organised by the PACER Plus Implementation Unit (PPIU) and hosted by the Government of the Solomon Islands.
The Cook Islands delegation was led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration (MFAI). Also in attendance was a Cook Islands representative participating through the Pacific Islands Council of Trade Unions (PICTU).
The meeting brought together representatives from Pacific governments, regional organisations, development partners, and international agencies including the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the World Bank.
The Cook Islands delegation gained valuable insights into regional approaches, challenges and perspectives that will especially help shape the development of the Cook Islands’ Intra-Pacific Labour Mobility (IPLM) Pilot Programme in the future. continue to contribute to this regional dialogue.
MFAI representative, Ms. Teremoana Fukofuka, reaffirmed the country’s ongoing commitment to regional labour mobility cooperation. “While the Cook Islands’ experience in labour mobility differs from many of our regional counterparts, we recognise the importance of collective progress. The Cook Islands will continue to engage constructively in regional discussions, share lessons from our own context, including challenges from our Intra-Pacific Labour Mobility pilot, and support initiatives that promote sustainable labour mobility outcomes across our Blue Pacific Continent.”
Outcomes from the 2025 PLMAM will inform upcoming discussions at the PACER Plus Joint Committee and Ministerial Meeting later this month. These meetings will also set the stage for announcements ahead of PLMAM 2026.
