15 April 2025, Nadi - Prime Minister Hon. Mark Brown and Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, Hon. Jeremiah Manele, met last week, to explore opportunities for strengthened cooperation between the two nations.
Taking place on the margins of the Troika Leaders meeting in Nadi, the two Leaders exchanged views on the rapidly changing global landscape, and options for regional responses. They agreed on the importance of diversifying relationships to address the unique challenges faced by the Pacific region, particularly in areas of economic and climate security.
In addition to touching on the Troika Leaders’ agenda items, the Leaders discussed the potential for bilateral cooperation, particularly in the area of healthcare labour force. Prime Minister Brown acknowledged the success of Inter-Agency Understanding for healthcare labour mobility between Solomon Islands and Niue, and, building on discussions between Te Marae Ora and their counterparts in Solomon Islands, expressed an interest in exploring a similar programme for the Cook Islands.
Prime Minister Manele provided an update on national preparations for hosting and assumption of Chairship of the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting, which will be held in Honiara from 8–12 September. The meeting concluded with Prime Minister Brown extending a warm invitation to Prime Minister Manele to attend the 60th celebration of the Cook Islands’ constitution to celebrate this important anniversary of self-governance with the people of the Cook Islands.
